An excellent read articulating how the Kool-Aid’s getting a little stale.
Your Mortgage Is Not My Problem
And apparently, it isn’t the government’s problem, either.
Those who feared the worst with TARP now get to watch it play out in slow-motion as our government attempts to “fairly” untangle the labyrinth that created the housing mess in the first place.
Due to it’s (what else?) “complexity”, “tough” eligibility restrictions, and the possibility of lawsuits as mortgage investors fear losses from servicers willing to “downgrade” and lock in payment terms when foreclosure would be more profitable, there will be delays and it is expected some needy homeowners facing foreclosure won’t receive help.
So how’s that hope working for you, anyway?
Bye-Bye Bad Bill
That nasty fruit salad bill resting on the questionable bed of whether the District of Columbia should be granted voting rights has stalled in the House.
Why?
Because of Senate amendment S.575, a bit of pork (so-called only because it has nothing to do with the original bill) added to restore Second Amendment rights to the District of Columbia. Two of the reasons for this as stated in the amendment are:
(3) The law-abiding citizens of the District of Columbia are deprived by local laws of handguns, rifles, and shotguns that are commonly kept by law-abiding persons throughout the United States for sporting use and for lawful defense of their persons, homes, businesses, and families.
(4) The District of Columbia has the highest per capita murder rate in the Nation, which may be attributed in part to local laws prohibiting possession of firearms by law-abiding persons who would otherwise be able to defend themselves and their loved ones in their own homes and businesses.
D.C. delegate Eleanor Holmes-Norton dressed down the House, saying, “The gravest insult is to pit the safety and security of everybody in the District — from the president down to the kids who can now get hold of military weapons plus District residents — put all that at risk by putting this reckless bill forward.” Conveniently forgetting that only 2 years ago Charles H. Ramsey, D.C. police chief, was quoted as saying, “Young black males, in groups of five to six, ages 13 to 15, are displaying handguns and beating their victims.”
I tell you, if I lived in an area like that, you’d be prying my Second Amendment rights and my Sig-Sauer from my cold, stiff fingers.
The Pied Piper
As I watch President Obama and his administration succeeding in systematically setting up the destruction of this country (no mean feat considering he’s been in office for only 41 days) and so little being done to stop it, my thoughts return again and again to the story of the Pied Piper.
Most people know this as a children’s story. As it goes in the most simple of picture books, a small village found itself with a terrible infestation of rats and its elders were at a loss as to what to do. One day a piper came ’round, claiming he could rid them of the rats. The elders agreed to pay the pay the piper a handsome sum and so it was a deal was struck. The piper pulled a fife from his pocket and began to play a tune. As if by magic, the rats came out of all their hiding places, swarms and swarms of them, and all the while continuing to play his tune, the piper slowly led them into the river where the rats all drowned.
And the village rejoiced.
This, then, is rather like the coming of Barack Hussein Obama. A small village called America, having a serious rat problem, finds the man who claims he can play a tune to rid them of the rats. Full of hope, they have agreed to pay him a very high price.
But, as the late Paul Harvey liked to say, here’s the rest of the story.
Once the problem with the rats had been resolved, the people of the village began to regret the high price they’d agree to pay the piper. They hedged and they stalled until finally the piper left in anger. The people of the village heaved a guilty sigh of relief but their relief was short-lived. The piper returned, but now dressed for hunting. He began to play his fife again, but this time it wasn’t rats who were entranced and so called out, but instead it was the children of the village. All of those over the age of 4, including the mayor’s grown daughter.
The piper played and the piper led the children away into a cave in the side of a nearby mountain, and none were ever seen again.
This, then, I believe, is the future for those who still believe in the audacity of the President’s hope. Those who already regret having hired this piper and are speaking out find themselves facing the administration’s anger towards their criticisms when continuing blind adulation was the anticipated payment. The campaign rhetoric continues like some mad, enchanting tune, and it is our children, in the guise of our Constitutional freedoms, that are being spirited away.
“I Hope He Fails”
Failure is an interesting word. Dating back to 1643, it has subtle layers of meaning but when all is said and done it means “The End”.
And when something reaches The End, there just ain’t no more.
The Democrats and left-wingers are still dripping angst from beating their chests in righteous indignation over Rush Limbaugh’s statement, “I hope he fails” and I personally fail to understand what’s so bloody unclear about it? The word are so simple. “He” means President Obama and his economic fantasies…errrr…economic stimulus policies; “fail” means those economic fantasies…errr…economic stimulus polices come to an end.
If you tell me that Kim Jong-il is planning to launch a missile at the United States and I tell you that I hope he fails, you would readily understand that the deeper meaning of those words is I hope our country remains safe from harm. Well, here’s a little surprise. What Rush Limbaugh said is no different. It is opinion of many, many people, both those who hire decorators to frame fancy paper from Ivy League colleges and those who carry well-worn, creased Ph.D.s from the school of real life in their back pocket, that the economic policies of President Obama…well, ok, the economic policies that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid keep proposing and ramrodding through Congress are as harmful to the United States as anything Kim Jong-il would like to lob at us. So to say that “we” want President Obama to fail means that “we” want this country to remain safe from harm.
When did wanting this country to remain safe from harm become unpatriotic? Did Congress pass some law outlawing patriotism for all but card-carrying members of the Democratic party while we were all sleeping last night? How can this even be up for discussion? Yet so many Democrats are all over this like white on rice, even going out of their way to bait Republicans, using every bit of greasy guile to trick them into saying they want the country to fail.
And then in the same breath they lay claim to being so “Reagan-esque” in their approach to economic restabilization.
Are they nuts?
You don’t need to answer that. Through the blessing of free speech conferred upon us by our Founding Fathers, the Democrats and the mainstream media have made it quite clear.
They aren’t smarter than a 5th grader.
Stimulating?
According to Foxnews.com, “Washington plans to soon pour $5 million into a national media campaign aimed at 18-to-30 year olds, outlining the benefits of marriage and tips on having a healthy one. ”
I don’t think this is quite the kind of stimulus Americans were expecting.
Going Back To Basics
It’s rather amusing to see the Democrats frantically scurrying around like rats exposed to a bright light as they try and undo some strange perception of damage after Rush Limbaugh’s address to CPAC on Saturday. Everyone from Rahm Emanuel to Robert Gibbs have been taking pot shots; as if their opinion means any more than does Rush Limbaugh’s.
Even Michael Steele, chairman of Republican National Committee, had to get his 15 minutes of fame by referring to Rush’s speech as “inciteful” and “ugly” but excusing it because Rush is “merely” an entertainer.
Puh-leese. This dogs-peeing-on-trees behavior is ridiculous. But it’s exactly why more and more people are becoming more and more disenchanted with both the Democrats and the Republicans.
I happen to agree with Rush that we, the people, need a strong, “conservative” candidate to run in 2012. But I am more and more convinced that such a conservative will not be found in the ranks of the Republican party any more than it can come from within the Democratic party. As has been said, to be conservative is not to aspire to any particular party affiliation, no; to be a conservative is a mindset. Milktoast Michael Steele misses the mark with his hip-hop aspirations for the Republican party as widely as do Democrats like Pop-Up Pelosi.
We need a return to basics. We don’t need more government and we certainly don’t need more government employees – elected or hired. We don’t need the continual illusions of divisiveness created just to make up for a personal lack of responsibility and/or fortitude.
We don’t need some self-proclaimed Messiah and we certainly don’t need another Emperor running around naked. What we need, truthfully, is a good, old-fashioned hero. A person who doesn’t judge their own intellect by how many pieces of paper are hung in frames on their wall or by how many favors they can curry by the number of names they can drop. Someone who is sensible and honest, fair and humble. Someone who has a reading comprehension level of at least a 5th grader and the ability to do simple addition and subtraction. Someone with at least a modicum of common sense.
Above all, we need a real American. And though there are many flitting around the beltway and sashaying around governor’s mansions who like to think they fit that bill, I’m afraid they are already part of the problem and therefore automatically disqualified.
It’s time to clean house and start all over again.
Another Week, Another Deadbeat Cabinet Nominee
Pass the butter, folks; the President’s on a roll. Ron Kirk, the president’s choice to be U.S. trade representative, owes an estimated $10,000 in back taxes.
I don’t think I’ll be asking him to buy me a lottery ticket any time soon.
But then again, crime does seem to be paying.

Freedom To Vote
In what some are calling a “preemptive strike” against the unpaid union debts owed by the new administration, a bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives that would shoot down the legitimacy of any union where a secret ballot vote to organize hasn’t taken place.
H.R. 1176 is a Very Good Thing, no matter how much union leaders and beholden Democrats might whine. You see, the human being is, for most intents and purposes, very much a herd kind of critter, a “sheeple”, if you will. Finding safety in numbers, they are hard-pressed to make a solo stand against the perceived opinions of the majority, especially when the majority happens to be their own flock. P.T. Barnum is famous for his exploitation of this idea; union organizers (and most used-car salesmen) know it, too. The “crowd mentality” is exploited on a daily basis by advertisers and others with good or not-so-good intentions every day. Heck, it’s pretty much the way Congress does business.
But a truth is that what people say in front of members of their flock in order to be seen as “going along” and what they really believe are often two very different things. And it is to protect that free will choice to cast ballots in secrecy and anonymity for which this bill is designed. Intimidation and coersion have no place in business; they have no business any place, for that matter.
While I am on the record as being no fan of big government, the right to choose union representation freely is one fundamental right that should be set down and made clear once and for all.
Kudos to the 103 co-sponsors on record. It’s pathetic to see that there isn’t a single Democrat – those self-annointed “defenders” of the “little people” – among the lot. Not even one those still in Congress who once told the Mexican government (in writing): “We understand that the secret ballot is allowed for, but not required, by Mexican labor law. However, we feel that the secret ballot is absolutely necessary in order to ensure that workers are not intimidated into voting for a union they might not otherwise choose.”
