Democrats Are Spammers

I never signed up for this.  But apparently once the tech-no-bamas got into the campaign fray, no one’s email address was safe any more.

Sounding as desperate to find a believer for their con game as any garden-variety spammer, today I’m receiving multiple copies of a hilarious plea from the Democratic National Committee to come up with a slogan, in ten words or less, that they can put on a billboard near Rush Limbaugh’s home.  The winner will even get a t-shirt with their slogan on it.

Yes, I know.

It’s very, very … childish.

You realize, of course, that someone is actually PAYING these people to come up with this crap.  And they are actually PAYING them to spam Americans who want no part of it.  I wonder if this is part of Obama’s plan to “create”‘ jobs or to “save” jobs?

I’ll give them a slogan, all right.

I HOPE HE FAILS.

And because I’m feeling generous today, I’ll give them another one:

Embrace the failure.  It’s patriotic.

Who Said Crime Doesn’t Pay?

Having failed to collect the money in his alleged deal to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat, impeached and ousted former Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, remains nonplussed and intends to use his failure to once more try to reap those tantalizing, big dividends by penning a “tell-all” for Phoenix Books.

Maybe he thinks he’ll gain some sort of Presidential favor by banking on the fact Americans will be stupid enough to help stimulate the economy by buying it.

Dissing Rush

Apparently the Democratic party has a different meaning for the word “dialogue” than do the rest of us, so continues to use silly sandbox games as a distracting smokescreen tactic to cover up their continuing attempts to implement what some of us see as treacherous policies.

Foxnews.com reports today that another web site has come online for the sole purpose of “making fun” of Rush Limbaugh.  Hosted by none other than those fun-lovin’ folks at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  Yes, those are your hard-earned campaign contributions hard at at work making this nation a great place to live, my friends.

You’d think with the nation in such “crisis” they’d be focused on matters that really and truly affect national security, financial or otherwise, instead of continuing to participate in a childish pissing contest with someone who disagrees with them.

I think they are the ones who owe the apologies.

PMA Group Wins The Senate Lottery

I am rather at a loss to write about the audacity of  this latest follow-the-House’s-lead Senate stunt.

Question: On the Amendment (Coburn Amdt. No. 623 as Modified )
Vote Number: 80 Vote Date: March 4, 2009, 06:07 PM
Required For Majority: 1/2 Vote Result: Amendment Rejected
Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 623 to H.R. 1105 (Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009)
Statement of Purpose: To prohibit taxpayer dollars from being earmarked to 14 clients of a lobbying firm under Federal investigation for making campaign donations in exchange for political favors for the group’s clients.
Vote Counts: YEAs 43
  NAYs 52
  Not Voting 4

That “lobbying firm under Federal investigation” is, of course, PMA Group.  A lobbying firm.  They give members of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee campaign contributions, and in turn their clients are rewarded big, fat government contracts.  Government contracts paid for, of course, with OUR tax dollars.

It’s such a profitable way to do business there’s little surprise that someone who came up through the Illinois and Chicago political ranks like the President is going back on his campaign promises to stop earmarks.  For example, and I’ll keep it simple since the number of zeros involved – both monetary and Congress critters – is so big, let’s say I tell you that if you give me $2.30 I will turn around and give you $100.

You’d think you’d hit the hit the Lotto jackpot, wouldn’t you?

Well, that’s exactly the dirty business going on here.  And the President continues to look the other way as the Democratic majority condones it.

Bankruptcy-Lite

The latest insight into the housing Obamanation was reported today at CNBC but isn’t getting a whole lot of real press.  It’s rather like bankruptcy but with only half the stigma.

One of the ways in which those Democratic knights in shining armor intend to help all those “overextended” homeowners, hidden in the depths of President Obama’s mortgage modification plan, is to pay mortgage servicers to write off second liens.   You know, those home equity loans or home equity lines of credit that so many people have used for instant gratification, to “fluff up” their lifestyle with things like new cars, big screen televisions, a trip to Europe, a swimming pool, or a fancy addition on their house.

All those things some of us pay for through more traditional means of financing, including cash.

Sure, some people have used the equity in their home for truly responsible things, like college tuition, but the truth is that enough of it went for non-necessities that this is far too grey area at which to toss even more of the responsible American taxpayer’s money.

Your Illegal Status Is Not My Problem

March 4, 2009 By Joan of Snark

Just what part of “illegal” is so hard to understand when it’s used in front of the word “immigrant”?  The Denver Post had an editorial today making an argument for a bill that would allow the children of illegal immigrants to be charged in-state tuition at Colorado colleges and universities.  They also would be eligible for tuition assistance.  Just like they can already sponge off American taxpayers’ money by living in  Kansas, Utah, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Yes.  I used the word “sponge”.

This is just so very, very wrong.

These people are here illegally.  That means they are, by default, breaking the law.  I really don’t care how “hard” they may be seen to be working, the truth is that too many of them are clogging our prisons and our medical facilities, wasting people’s time by having to “press 1 for English” and it is American citizens who are footing the bill, not the few illegals who purportedly pay “some sort” of taxes.

By default and by definition, no matter how you try to disguise it, they don’t belong here.

No, it isn’t “fair” that the children of illegal immigrants must suffer because their parents are criminals.  But it isn’t fair to the children of an American citizen if their parents end up in jail, either; yet you don’t hear a whole lot of sympathy being spouted for them, do you?  Of course not.  Americans suck it up, as they say.  We have rules by which we are expected to live, and consequences to be suffered when we fail to live by those rules.

Why should it be any different for those who are not citizens and are not even here legally?  Why should it be different for criminals?

Personally, I think any elected representative who really believes that rewarding those who break the law ought to be sent packing alongside their hoped-to-be-new Democratic constituents.  But the problem is, very few other countries will accept criminals the way that America is being forced to.

Power Corrupts

And absolute power corrupts absolutely.  All you have to do is give someone a taste of it see the truth in this.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has got to be not only among the most annoying, but among the least professional employees I’ve witnessed in a while.  That his childlish bullying and spitefulness represents the President should give one pause.

That the President apparently condones this type of behavior is even more troubling.

In an article about his beligerence when it comes to the media and any sort of criticism of the President, Gibbs said Tuesday he did not actually get in a “lot of trouble” for singling out Santelli.

“There are very few days that I’ve had more fun,” Gibbs said.

It’s always nice to see more people speaking out.

“…many of us are hoping that all those in power fail. Because those in power have a grating habit of being annoyingly self-righteous, hopelessly corrupt, resolutely incompetent and completely apathetic about the freedoms that they have sworn to protect.

Embrace the failure. It’s patriotic. “

Freedom To Vote II

March 4, 2009 By Joan of Snark

There had better be a fight.  I know I’m not going to let this one pass without one.

While the administration continues to blow a gasket and gush requisite distractions of smoke over the popularity of Rush Limbaugh, the President addressed ALF-CIO union leaders by videotape on Tuesday to assure them that, “We will pass the Employee Free Choice Act.”

This is that nefarious bit of legislation that will allow unionization of companies if a majority of workers sign a card in front of other people, saying yes, they want the workers to be represented by a union.

It is a dastardly bit of legislative payback by the union-owing President that allows the ever-decreasing unions to strong-arm their way into increasing membership through covert and what will assuredly also be overt intimidation.  Peer-pressure is not something to underestimate but by taking away the right to a private vote for unionization, the President is ursupping one of America’s basic rights.

Organized labor is planning to “mobilize” workers in what they see as key states.  Pray yours isn’t one of them.  The President and the administration are already going to tax the incentive to maintain a business right out of employers, to the point that the smallest businesses are going to fade away and the biggest ones leave, both taking jobs away with them.

I hope he fails.

Timmy Fell In The Well!

March 4, 2009 By Joan of Snark

Someone call Lassie.  Quick.

It was a tough choice, but instead of tuning into Rush Limbaugh’s radio show today I decided to go for the comic relief of the the Senate finance committee meeting that put Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on the hot seat, asking questions ranging from why the never-ending bailout of AIG (there is “less risk” to the American economy in bailing them out than letting AIG reap the “consequences” of its actions; “millions of depend on AIG” so in the “government’s judgement” the “effect on confidence” is much “more dramatic” than the “failure of an investment bank”) to questions about the bailout of the auto industry (which were muffled due to Senator Stabenow’s head being stuck firmly in a very inappropriate place).

When pressed about the growing gall of tax-paying Americans watching their money continue to be handed out like candy to those who pay no taxes, our legendary little tax evader made reference to the Obama adminstration’s investigation into closing off-shore bank account loopholes but, like a good little foot soldier, Geithner kept going back to the mantra of the country needing a “comprehensive strategy” to deal with it.

We sure do, Timmy.  But as Senator Orrin Hatch pointed out, Geithner was head of the Federal Reserve in New York when Wall Street slipped on its banana peel.   Senator Hatch noted that the “economy, while not strong, was moderate” under Bush, and President Obama continually referring to “recent events” doesn’t seem exactly fair when Geithner was “the overseer” during the Bush administration.

Obama may be running, but at this, Geithner was squirming.  His response to Senator Hatch was a masterful mix of weasel words.  He blamed “systematic failures” and claims (rightfully) that “a lot of things contributed” to the meltdown.  But instead of owning his own role in the financial industry cluster, he then went on to say that “the Federal Reserve was not given responsibility for overseeing investment banks, insurance companies”, etc. that were a “critical part of the crisis”.  And repeated again that “comprehensive conservative oversight” was needed.

So none of these Wall Street failures during Geithner’s tenure are considered “critical” any more?

March 2008:  Investment bank Bear Stearns collapses from losses in subprime mortgage obligations and derivatives transactions; J.P. Morgan Chase buys Bear Stearns in a deal arranged by the Federal Reserve for the dramatically reduced value of $2 a share, with the Federal Reserve guaranteeing J.P. Morgan against $30 billion in Bear Stearns asset losses.

September 2008:  Wall Street investment bank Lehman Brothers closes doors in bankruptcy after the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve refuse to arrange a merger plan, a bailout or a guarantee program to save the Wall Street giant.

September 2008:  The Bank of America buys Wall Street investment bank Merrill Lynch in a $50 billion deal that saves Merrill Lynch from having to declare bankruptcy.

September 2008:  The Federal Reserve extends to insurance giant American International Group, or AIG, an $85 billion loan that saves it from going bankrupt from derivatives loses in a massive $441 billion exposure to credit default swaps.

November 2008:  Citibank received $45 billion through the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, plus Treasury Department, Federal Reserve and FDIC guarantees on $306 billion in troubled assets held by the bank.

January 2009:  Morgan Stanley takes over Citibank’s Smith Barney investment unit as Citibank unravels the “financial supermarket” conglomerate accumulated when Sandy Weill combined Travelers Insurance, investment bank Smith Barney and Citibank to form Citigroup in the 1990s.

Guess Lassie doesn’t need to bring any rope.
